Welcome to I'RAISE Job Page! We are I'RAISE, a small non-profit organization in New York City. We focus on mental health advocacy/services + program, and academic enrichment program at underserved NYC schools!

Come join our Empire Afterschool Program in Brooklyn, New York as a Part-time Group Teacher.

Group Teacher's Responsibilities:

  • Develop curriculum for class for grade levels K-5 and facilitate core components specific group activities.

  • Develop and implement project-based lesson plans and activities in areas of expertise that enrich academic learning.

  • Develop weekly lesson plans and implement them during class.

  • Write and submit lesson plans and reports to the Supervisor.

  • Coordinate and plan students for school performances and shows.

  • Assess student learning and skills during rehearsals.

  • You are responsible for the safety and supervision of children in classes you facilitate.

  • Implement social emotional learning principles in the classroom.

  • Maintain two way and ongoing communication with parents, program director, group teachers, activity specialists and regular school staff as needed.

  • Assist in all activities such as snack time, field trips, special events and dismissal, etc.

  • Maintain daily accurate participant attendance of each class taught and written progress of each student in student files, including activity and sign-out records.

  • Implement daily program standards of excellence.

  • Other duties, tasks, and responsibilities assigned at any time

Job Qualification:

  • At least a high School degree with 2 + years of experience working with children

  • Teaching experience preferred; volunteer and internship experience considered

  • Must have expertise in one of the following: Music, Dance, Theater, or Sports

  • Afterschool teaching experience highly preferred

  • Experience working in a Department of Education public school preferred

  • Must be a New York City resident. Relocation and visa sponsorship/coverage currently not provided by I'RAISE

Clearance Requirement:

  • Must provide three professional / academic references

  • Must complete Department of Education Background Clearance/Fingerprint (cost not covered by I'RAISE)

  • Must complete Office of Family and Children Service (OCFS) Background Clearance/Fingerprint (cost not covered by I'RAISE)

  • Must have valid / active Social Security Number for NYC background clearance / fingerprint process

Physical and or mental requirement: Possess social perceptiveness. Ability to understand the importance of discretion and confidentiality. Bending, crawling, stooping, standing, vision, lifting, and walking. Must be able to remain in a stationary position during shift, move throughout the building to access files, this role requires inspection of sites to detect safety concerns, must be able to complete tasks in a noisy environment, must be able to adhere to process protocol, must be able to apply established protocols in a timely manner. Learn new tasks, remember processes, maintain focus, complete tasks independently, make timely decisions in the context of a workflow, ability to communicate with visitors/stakeholders, ability to complete tasks in situations that have a speed or productivity quota. Occasionally ascend and descend stairs. Constantly work in indoor and outdoor weather conditions.

Technology requirement: Comfortable communicating via email and phone, proficient in Microsoft-suite and Google Workspace (G-suite). This job may require the use of a laptop or computer and phone.
