Position Summary:

At P.S. 178 Brooklyn, we believe in nurturing young minds beyond the classroom, providing them with opportunities for growth, exploration, and enrichment. As an Afterschool Teaching Assistant Intern, you'll play a pivotal role in supporting our mission by assisting experienced teachers in delivering engaging and interactive lessons, fostering a positive learning environment, and inspiring young learners to reach their full potential.


Internship Scopes;


  • Collaborate with dedicated educators to develop and implement creative lesson plans and activities tailored to the diverse needs and interests of students.

  • Engage with students in meaningful interactions, providing academic support, encouragement, and guidance to promote their social-emotional development and academic success.

  • Assist in classroom management and behavior guidance, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and conducive learning environment for all students.

  • Participate in ongoing professional development sessions, workshops, and team meetings to enhance your teaching skills, cultural competency, and understanding of best practices in education.

  • Utilize technology and multimedia resources to enhance learning experiences and facilitate student engagement and participation.


Responsibilities:


  • Assist in developing and implementing engaging lesson plans and activities aligned with curriculum standards.

  • Foster an inclusive learning environment where students feel valued and encouraged to participate actively.

  • Provide one-on-one and small group academic support tailored to individual student needs.

  • Organize and manage classroom materials, resources, and technology tools effectively.

  • Support teacher in monitoring student behavior and enforcing classroom rules.

  • Engage students in structured play and group interactions during after school activities.

  • Collaborate with program staff to assess student progress and communicate with parents.

  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills.

  • Contribute to a positive team culture through collaboration and support.

  • Adhere to all program and school policies, procedures, and safety protocols.


Qualifications/Requirement:


  • Currently pursuing an education degree or related field, with a passion for working with children and a desire to pursue a career in teaching.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and families from diverse backgrounds.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to effectively collaborate and contribute to a team environment.

  • Flexibility, adaptability, and a willingness to learn and grow as an educator.
