Position Summary:

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will oversee the day-to-day operational functions of the organization, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and enhancing operational efficiency. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the COO will implement policies, manage resources, and provide leadership across multiple departments to support the organization's mission and goals.


  • Lead initiatives to enhance processes, optimize resources, and drive growth and success, focusing on operational efficiency and financial sustainability.

  • Oversee all fiscal and administrative functions, including Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, and Property/Facilities.

  • Manage staff, including Accountant, Finance Director, Grant Analyst, Executive Director, Deputy Director, Human Resources Director, and other relevant individuals.

  • Monitor I’RAISE’s financial performance and collaborate with the CEO to develop long-term financial plans aligned with the organization’s strategic goals.

  • Provide daily leadership and management to ensure effective coordination of resources, producing quality programs and efficiently managing the organization.

  • Prepare and monitor the annual budget, financial statements, and other organization-wide and program-specific reports.

  • Review agency finances with the CEO, the Finance team, and the Board of Directors.

  • Advise management and the board on financial, administrative, and facility matters related to current programs and proposed opportunities.

  • Lead and manage the financial and business aspects of I’RAISE (and affiliates), maintaining relationships with government agencies, foundations, lenders, developers, insurers, investment managers, retirement plan administrators, and other vendors.

  • Manage relationships with funding agencies and lenders, prepare financial reports and billing for various contracts, and ensure compliance with all loans and grants.

  • Oversee fiscal operations, including general accounting, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchasing, insurance, and bank reconciliations, as well as supervise the Finance staff.

  • Ensure the team maintains the general ledger and journal, including entries and reconciliations.

  • Manage all aspects of I’RAISE audits, including relationships with auditors and preparation of audit materials.

  • Work with the CEO to identify and mitigate potential risks related to facilities, programs, and operations.

  • Maintain positive relationships with community partners, donors, and stakeholders.

  • Provide oversight and direction to Finance, Human Resources, IT, and other departments to ensure efficient and effective operations.

  • Coach and mentor direct reports.

  • Travel to other I’RAISE sites in NYC and Atlanta, GA, as needed.

  • Complete relevant and additional tasks as assigned by direct supervisor (CEO)

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 5+ years of professional experience in nonprofit finance and accounting, operations, and management, specifically in non-profit sector

  • A strategic thinker who understands how operations and finances support the broader mission of a nonprofit organization.

  • Extensive experience with government social service contracting, including but not limited to NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOMH), Department of Social Services (HRA/DHS), ACS, and the Department of Education (DOE).

  • Depth of experience in managing teams, supporting cross-functional collaboration, developing staff, and setting clear goals.

  • Well-organized and strategic thinker with excellent communication skills to work closely with the CEO and senior staff to set organizational direction and achieve goals.

  • Collaborative and proactive team leader who can positively and productively impact both strategic and tactical finance and administration initiatives.

  • Ability to operate as an effective tactical as well as strategic thinker.

  • Proficiency in: Strategic Thinking, Financial Acumen, Operational Efficiency, Leadership and Mentoring, Problem-Solving, Risk Management

Travel Requirement:

  • Ability to travel within any borough in New York City, and Atlanta, Georgia as needed 

  • Must be a New York City Resident with a valid Social Security Number - I’RAISE does not provide relocation assistance nor provide any visa sponsorship at this time
