NEW YORK – I’RAISE Girls and Boys International Corporation is a burgeoning

community-based organization based in the Bronx. I’RAISE founder and CEO, Shanequa

Moore, LMSW is also a candidate for city council in the primary 2021 elections. She is a

Bronx native and knows what it's like to grow up in the Bronx with scarce

resources.

I’RAISE's humble beginnings started in 2013 at the Edenwald Community Center in the

Bronx when just a few volunteers spoke to children and families on the streets and

parks. 8 years later, I’RAISE has served over 10,000 vulnerable minority children across

NYC, providing free school mental health and school social work services, STEM, law,

engineering, medicine, robotics, coding for girls of color, tutoring, mentoring, arts and

culture programs, and parent support groups.

“Black and brown children in NYC are deeply impacted by COVID and are still

recovering. The isolation, trauma and social unrest they experienced over the last year

is still here. We need organizations like I’RAISE to help our kids recover from the effects of

COVID and to combat the system of racism," said one I'RAISE employee.

I’RAISE is hosting its 8th-year anniversary gala on May 22 at 4 p.m. ET. The anniversary

gala will be a virtual event, co-hosted by Sharon Ashford and DJ James Reed, The

event will celebrate 8 years of educational and community-based programming along

with essential mental health for children, teens, and families. This event will include live

performances from New York City kids, artists, including Shane Morgan, Ryan Heart,

select performances from our youth, and an award procession for the honorees.

I’RAISE Girls & Boys International Corporation’s mission is to improve and develop

under-resourced communities and the schools that help youth become successful in life

by providing a holistic program aimed at enhancing socio-emotional well-being and

educational outcomes of youth ages 5-19 years.
