Hello! We are I'RAISE, a non-profit organization in New York City. We focus on mental health advocacy/services + program, and academic enrichment program at underserved NYC schools!


Our Empire Afterschool Program is currently looking for fantastic volunteers to join our Afterschool program in Brooklyn, New York, for 4 hours per week. An an Instructor Volunteer, you will work with our children (pre-k to 5th grade), and helping to build a positive and inclusive fun learning environment.

Music Instructor Volunteer Responsibilities:

  1. Teach Vocal Techniques: Provide instruction in vocal techniques, including breathing, posture, resonance, articulation, and vocal range, to students of varying skill levels.

  2. Lead Vocal Exercises and Warm-ups: Organize and lead vocal exercises, warm-ups, and vocal drills to help students develop strength, flexibility, and control in their singing.

  3. Select and Teach Repertoire: Select appropriate repertoire (songs, vocal exercises, and vocalises) for students based on their vocal abilities, interests, and goals, and provide instruction on interpretation, expression, and performance techniques.

  4. Offer Individualized Instruction: Provide one-on-one or small group instruction to students who may need extra assistance or want to focus on specific areas of vocal development.

  5. Create a Supportive Learning Environment: Foster a supportive and encouraging learning environment where students feel comfortable expressing themselves through music and exploring their vocal potential.

  6. Prepare for Performances: Assist students in preparing for solo performances, ensemble performances, auditions, and competitions, providing guidance on repertoire selection, rehearsal techniques, and stage presence.

  7. Provide Feedback and Evaluation: Offer constructive feedback, encouragement, and guidance to students during rehearsals and performances, helping them to improve their vocal skills and overcome any challenges they may encounter.

  8. Collaborate with School Staff: Work collaboratively with music teachers, accompanists, directors, and other volunteers to support the overall goals and objectives of the school's music program.

  9. Serve as a Positive Role Model: Serve as a positive role model for students, demonstrating professionalism, enthusiasm for music, and a commitment to excellence in vocal performance.


Music Instructor Volunteer Qualifications:

  1. A passion for singing and a desire to share your expertise with others.

  2. Proficiency in vocal techniques, repertoire selection, and performance skills.

  3. Previous experience teaching or coaching singers, especially in a school or educational setting, is preferred but not required.

  4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students of diverse backgrounds and abilities.

  5. Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in supporting the artistic and personal growth of youth.

  6. Must complete DOE School Fingerprint ($105)

  7. Must complete OCFS Fingerprint + Medical Clearance ($70+). Clearance timeline takes up to 3 weeks or more. Costs are not covered by our organization.
